On November 22, 2023, the highly anticipated Indonesia International Sugar Industry Technology and Equipment Exhibition grandly opened in Surabaya, showcasing the latest technologies and equipment from the global sugar industry over the course of two days. As the largest economy in Southeast Asia and the fourth most populous country in the world, Indonesia has seen rapid growth in its food and beverage as well as biofuel industries in recent years, leading to a continuous increase in sugar consumption demand.

Faced with the gap between domestic sugar production and consumption demand, the Indonesian government places high importance on the development of the sugar industry. According to foreign media reports, the Indonesian Minister of Agriculture stated that the country's sugar production currently stands at 2.4 million tons, while the demand is as high as 3.2 million tons, indicating a supply gap of 800,000 tons. To address this, the Indonesian government has emphasized the importance of utilizing high-quality sugarcane crops and increasing overall production to meet the demands of the domestic market.
